Bhoomi City Scape By Bhoomi & Buildings Navalur, Chennai

Project Summary

Overview

City Scape at Navalur, a low-rise building concept being developed by the Bhoomi & Buildings coming with only 1 BHK apartments in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Mamallapuram is one of the rare places along the southern coast of Chennai where the pulse of the past and present are connected. The town of Mamallapuram stands at a cross of times along the south coast of Chennai, where centuries-old rock-cut temples clash with the steady rhythm of traffic on the East Coast Road. Where a legions of heritage tourists converge with a growing cohort of people who want to live near the sea, but without completely exiting the Chennai metropolitan area. Place and inspiration comes from this unique coastal-heritage context, which included land, multi storeyed apartment and commercial properties along the southern belt of the city.

The design of development is based around the practical and scheduled only one design and limited homes for a specific type of user. The young professionals and small families attracted to the ECR corridor's coastal appeal and newfound connection with their surroundings, who desire a practical and well-constructed home rather than one over burdened with frills. The architecture is restrained and functional, simple facades, practical use of unit size and an emphasis on light and air over ornament and fits into a scheme of building houses that meet actual, while shutting out the tinsel of aspiration.

The living areas in each apartment have been designed so they occupy as little space as possible. While maintaining an open, spacious feel, and the key elements of the building have been integrated into the community fabric to provide a comfortable and self-sufficient living experience. Known as an emerging name in the builder industry in Chennai in the past, it brings in a steady no-frills reliability, preferring to go with considered construction over haughty promises. It is as much the setting as the house that appeals to residents; the promise of waking up near the shores of Mamallapuram, to its ancient monuments and, crucially, the ECR, that is always improving, and not far from the rest of the rhythm of Chennai.

Location

City Scape located at Navalur is a heritage coastal town on the East Coast Road in the city's growing metropolitan outskirts near Chennai's city centre. Respectively it is famous for the rock-cut souvenirs which are listed on the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, its beaches, and the continuous development of schools, health care and retail catering to the town's increasing population. Its ongoing upgrades have increasingly made commuting towards Chennai's IT Corridors easy and made the Mamallapuram have the rare privilege on having access to coastal living with access to the heritage villages and also to the economic centres of the city.

Master Plan

City Scape's master plan is designed to be efficient, making the best use of the site by carefully planning the form of the traditional housing requirements. The scale is a balance between the requirements for providing enough open space with the requirements for providing enough built-out space for residents to be able to enjoy shared outdoor space without the overwhelming scale of the larger township scale. There is a clear separation of parking area from living spaces, utility areas are clearly separated and the overall layout is based on a simple design thinking that has been adapted to the project's single configured facilities.
