About Marine Drive
Marine Drive is a scenic waterfront in Kochi, India. Built on the backwaters, it is a popular meeting place for locals. Despite its name, no vehicles are allowed on the trail. Marine Drive is also an economically prosperous area of Kochi City. Along with several shopping malls, it is an important shopping center in Kochi. Along the way are major fast food outlets such as Marybrown, DiMark and Coffee Bar. The view of the sun setting and rising over the sea estuary along with the gentle breeze from Lake Vembanad makes Marine Drive an important tourist destination in Kochi. Hundreds of people (locals and tourists) flock here in the evening. The trail starts at High Court Junction and continues to Rajendra Maidan. There are also several boat moorings along the way. The walkway has three bridges such as the Rainbow Bridge, the Chinese Fishing Net Bridge and the House Boat Bridge.
Marine Drive stretches from Jankar Pier in the north to Ernakulam Boat Pier in the south. The surrounding areas are in north-south order, including the Community Playground, Skyline Apartments, Federal Bank Building, and Alliance Residences. These buildings and land are located between Sea Road and Shanmugam.
The public square at the northern end of Marine Drive is a favorite venue for major exhibitions and more importantly, political conferences that mark major milestones in Kerala's political scene. GCDA Mall is the main shopping arcade in Ernakulam City. The final attraction is the kulukki sarbath outlet, which serves local non-alcoholic cocktails.
