About Mysuru

Mysuru covers an area of 286.05 square kilometers (110 sq mi) in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills, about 145 kilometers (90.1 mi) southwest of Bangalore. It is well-known for its rich cultural heritage and majestic monuments and grand buildings. It is also known as the cultural capital of Karnataka due to its magnificent palaces and heritage buildings.

The city houses a multi-Campus; multi-disciplinary private deemed university, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Amenities like universities, academies, hospitals, clinics, temples, mosques, churches, supermarkets, outdoor activities, fitness centres and beaches, etc. are close to the locality.

It is connected to the state border town of Gundlupet by the national highway NH-212, where the road splits into the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Buses are cheap and prominent means of transport within the city, as well as motorized rickshaws and Tongas (horse-drawn carriages) are popular with tourists. Trin-Trin, a public bike-sharing system partially funded by the United Nations, is a well-known form of transportation. Mysuru railway station has 3 lines connecting Mangalore, Bangalore and Chamarajanagar. Mysuru Airport is a domestic airport located near the village of Mandakalli and 10 kilometers south of the city center.

The city has become the hub of the automobile industry in Karnataka. The software companies in this locality are Infosys, ArisGlobal, Larsen & Toubro Infotech, Excelsoft Technologies and Triveni Engineering. It also hosts many central government organizations like CFTRI, DFRL, CIPET, BEML, RMP, RBI Note printing Press and RBI Paper Printing Press.
