About Thrippunithura

Thrippunithura or Tripunithura is a famous historical and residential area in Cochin, Kerala, India. About 7 kilometers (4 mi) from the city center, the region was the former capital of the Kingdom of Cochin. Descendants of the Cochin royal family still reside here in the palace. The Hill Palace at Tripunithura was the palace of the Maharajah of Cochin, the ruler of the Kingdom of Cochin. The area is also known for its history and culture and is famous for the Sree Pornathrayeesa temple and the annual Vrishchikoltsawam festival held at the temple.

The prominent Bhagavathi temple in Chottanikkara village is just 5 kilometers southeast of Thrippunithura. There are several hotels and restaurants with excellent vegetarian options and sweets. Statue Junction is home to several refreshment centers and the main accommodation is at Vadakkekota - Prasanth Hotel and many more. Abhishekam Conference Hall is one of the conference halls in this locality. The locality has many educational institutions which makes this place a great educational haven. There are 4 government colleges in the district namely Tripunithura Government College, Tripunithura Sanskrit College, RLV Academy of Fine Arts and Government Ayurveda College.

The area has a main bus station in its main hub and buses run in and out from various locations. Rail transport is also available. The area has two Highways such as NH 85 (Kochi Madurai Highway) or Old NH 49 Highway which access through Karingachiru. The Ernakulam-Ettumanoor National Road (SH 15) passes through this area. Tripunithura railway station is the main railway station on the Ernakulam-Kottayam route where many passengers and express trains stop.
